In the midst of weak and over stretched institutions, ensuring that citizens do not die of hunger becomes paramount. Young people are at the fore front of humanitarian assistance and service delivery, mobilizing material and non-material resources towards the provision and distribution of relief materials including food and non-food items to vulnerable groups across communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"681\" src=\"https:\/\/bbforpeace.org\/events\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/LRM_EXPORT_224850575121801_20200429_123255959-1024x681.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-255\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bbforpeace.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/LRM_EXPORT_224850575121801_20200429_123255959-1024x681.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/bbforpeace.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/LRM_EXPORT_224850575121801_20200429_123255959-300x200.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/bbforpeace.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/LRM_EXPORT_224850575121801_20200429_123255959-768x511.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/bbforpeace.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/LRM_EXPORT_224850575121801_20200429_123255959-1536x1022.jpeg 1536w, https:\/\/bbforpeace.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/LRM_EXPORT_224850575121801_20200429_123255959.jpeg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In Nigeria, as part of effort aimed\nat combatting COVID-19 pandemic, a total lock down and \u2018stay at home order\u2019 was\nannounced by the government to reduce community transmission of the virus and\nprevent further spread, however without adequate complementary palliatives for her\ncitizens. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nigeria is a country with a population\nof over 170 million and currently tops the world poverty chart ahead of several\nother conflict affected countries. The 2019 Global Multidimensional Poverty\nIndex (MPI) report shows that over 50% of Nigerians already live in multi-dimensional\npoverty. The COVID-19 pandemic is only making matter worse for most Nigerians. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the 28th&amp;29th of April 2020, youth volunteers of Building Blocks for Peace Foundation reached out to the elderly, widows and young daily earners who are struggling to survive during this period in four selected hard-to-reach communities such as Jago, Lademo, Ojoku and Eletu, all in Egbeda\/Ona Ara, Local Government Area, Ibadan, Southwest, Nigeria. The motive of this journey was to support with the provision and distribution of food items to over 70 people including widows, elderly men and women and disable youths in rural communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"681\" src=\"https:\/\/bbforpeace.org\/events\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/LRM_EXPORT_224801282406336_20200429_123206666-1024x681.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-254\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bbforpeace.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/LRM_EXPORT_224801282406336_20200429_123206666-1024x681.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/bbforpeace.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/LRM_EXPORT_224801282406336_20200429_123206666-300x200.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/bbforpeace.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/LRM_EXPORT_224801282406336_20200429_123206666-768x511.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/bbforpeace.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/LRM_EXPORT_224801282406336_20200429_123206666-1536x1022.jpeg 1536w, https:\/\/bbforpeace.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/LRM_EXPORT_224801282406336_20200429_123206666.jpeg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Volunteers also took the opportunity\nto educate and sensitize community members about the threats posed by coronavirus\nand the existing prevention strategies.
