{"id":535,"date":"2022-07-09T00:14:38","date_gmt":"2022-07-09T00:14:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bbforpeace.org\/blog\/?p=535"},"modified":"2022-07-09T00:35:16","modified_gmt":"2022-07-09T00:35:16","slug":"press-statement-on-the-kuje-prison-attack-and-the-security-of-the-nigerian-people","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bbforpeace.org\/blog\/2022\/07\/09\/press-statement-on-the-kuje-prison-attack-and-the-security-of-the-nigerian-people\/","title":{"rendered":"PRESS STATEMENT ON THE KUJE PRISON ATTACK AND  THE SECURITY OF THE NIGERIAN PEOPLE"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>On\n2 July 2022, Boko Haram <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thisdaylive.com\/index.php\/2022\/07\/06\/how-terrorists-attacked-kuje-prison-freed-150-boko-haram-fighters\/\">terrorists attacked<\/a>\nKuje Correctional Center, deploying bombs, Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) and\nGeneral Purpose Machine Guns (GPMG) freeing no less than 600 inmates, including\nBoko Haram fighters detained at the facility. The attack led to the death of\nsix inmates and one security personnel. As an organisation fostering peace and\nsecurity in the Nigerian states, we publicly condemn this act because it\npromotes the inflow of criminals in the Abuja environs and makes it vulnerable\nto violent extremism which threatens the development of the nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This\nattack confirms the vulnerability of the Nigerian Security Forces due to a lack\nof capacity to sustain the security of human lives and properties. The security\nof the Nigerian people is of utmost importance to the development of the\nnation. The government should beef up security in Abuja and its environs to\nmake sure the escaped prisoners do not fuel a security challenge that is\nharmful to human lives and undermine human dignity. We also use this\nopportunity to indulge the government to critically examine the roles of the\ntwo suspected <a href=\"https:\/\/dailytrust.com\/sources-officers-who-spoke-with-terrorists-after-kuje-attack-arrested\">officers of the Nigerian Police Force\nin the attack<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\ncall on the Nigerian security forces to come together to leverage modern\ntechnology to secure lives and property in the state.
