Subsequently, every September 21 was  chosen as the international day of peace.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of activities to mark Peace Day 2019, Building Blocks for \nPeace Foundation in collaboration with the Centre for Disaster Risk and \nCrisis Reduction, American Corner Ibadan and the UN information Centre \nLagos, organised a one-day Peace and Climate Dialogue under the theme \n\u201cClimate Action for Peace\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event which held on Thursday 19 September, 2019 at the American  Corner\/IACD Library, Ibadan, Nigeria, brought together scholars,  peacebuilders, climate change expert, relevant stakeholders and members  of the public to think of a collective action on how to promote advocacy  on climate action for sustainable peace. During the dialogue,  participants shared their opinions on the dangers of climate change and  how stakeholders can work together to ensure climate action for peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-1 wp-block-gallery columns-1 is-cropped\"><ul class=\"blocks-gallery-grid\"><li class=\"blocks-gallery-item\"><figure><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"419\" height=\"314\" src=\"https:\/\/bbforpeace.org\/eventreport\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/EE0ohzpW4AITCwM-1-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-id=\"382\" data-full-url=\"https:\/\/bbforpeace.org\/eventreport\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/EE0ohzpW4AITCwM-1-1.jpg\" data-link=\"https:\/\/bbforpeace.org\/eventreport\/2020\/09\/02\/bbforpeace-organises-peace-and-climate-dialogue-to-commemorate-2019-un-international-day-of-peace-2\/ee0ohzpw4aitcwm-1-1\/\" class=\"wp-image-382\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bbforpeace.org\/eventreport\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/EE0ohzpW4AITCwM-1-1.jpg 419w, https:\/\/bbforpeace.org\/eventreport\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/EE0ohzpW4AITCwM-1-1-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 419px) 100vw, 419px\" \/><\/figure><\/li><\/ul><figcaption class=\"blocks-gallery-caption\">Speakers at the BBFORPEACE 2018 PEACE DAY EVENT <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr Rafiu Lawal, the Director of Building Blocks for Peace Foundation \nwhile welcoming participants to the event noted that one major effect of\n climate change in Nigeria is the struggle for land and other resources \nbetween farmers and herders which has led to several killings and \ndestruction of farmlands and communities in Plateau, Kaduna, Niger, \nEbonyi, Benue, Ekiti, Ondo, Ogun, Oyo, Enugu and many other States \nthreatening peoples livelihood and the achievement of the UN Sustainable\n Development Goals 2030.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The keynote speaker Dr Stephen Faleti of the Institute of Peace and \nStrategic Studies (IPSS), University of Ibadan, who was represented by \nDr Lanre Yusuf, spoke extensively on the menace caused by climate change\n in various parts of Nigeria. He linked climate change to contemporary \nconflicts including Boko-haram terrorism in the North-eastern part of \nNigeria, land-resource conflicts and the Fulani-herdsmen conflicts in \nvarious parts of Nigeria. Dr Lanre encouraged the participants to change\n their attitude towards the environment and see the environment as a \n\u2018baby\u2019 in need of protection. He stressed on the need for massive public\n sensitization and awareness campaign on the implication of climate \nchange on the environment and identified several ways by which the \npublic can promote climate action for peace. He ended by stating that a \ngood climate is vital for ensuring sustainable peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr. Sola Fagorunsi of One Life Initiative, Mrs. A.O. Ojewale of the  Justice Development and Peace Commission and Mr. Sheriff Ajao of Centre for Disaster Risk and Crisis Reduction engaged the audience in a panel discussion on climate change, food security, and peacebuilding. The panelists explored the implication of climate change in various industries and the need for climate action for peace. Some important recommendations included the need for climate-smart agriculture, access to long-term credit facilities for farmers, sensitization and awareness campaign for farmers on climate change and its implication on agriculture and food security, the need for proactive action, the need for alternative dispute resolution and the need for strengthening local security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"736\" height=\"489\" src=\"https:\/\/bbforpeace.org\/events\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/dsc_1913-copy.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-51\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bbforpeace.org\/eventreport\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/dsc_1913-copy.jpg 736w, https:\/\/bbforpeace.org\/eventreport\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/dsc_1913-copy-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 736px) 100vw, 736px\" \/><figcaption> Panel discussant at the #PeaceDay2019. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The International Centre for Climate Change and Development \nInitiative, Africa represented by Miss Abikoye Abimbola, Mr Enitan Tunde\n and Miss Saya Abigail also facilitated a session on \u2018The Role of Youth \nin Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation\u2019.
